Christopher J. O’Connor, FAHP, CFRE

Chris O’Connor is Chief Development Officer of Mass General Brigham. In this capacity, he works side-by-side with the development leaders at each of MGB’s 14 system development offices.

With nearly 30 years of healthcare philanthropy experience, Mr. O’Connor is a recognized thought leader and sought-after speaker in the field. He spent fifteen years with a national consulting firm, rising to the level of Senior Vice President & Managing Director. During this time he served as counsel in the capital campaign, major gifts, campaign planning, strategic planning and capacity assessment arena for more than 80 hospitals, systems, and other healthcare organizations during his tenure. His clients ranged in size from multi-state health systems with dozens of hospitals to rural hospitals with less than 30 beds.

In addition to his consulting experience, Mr. O’Connor served as Senior Vice President of External Affairs & Chief Development Officer for the largest community hospital-based health system in New England as well as the President of the Foundation for a regional health system. In both instances he led teams that successfully completed historic capital campaigns.

He has presented at countless professional conferences and seminars at a state-wide, regional, national, and international level. He has also been an active volunteer and most recently served on the Boards of the South Shore Chamber of Commerce and the Harold Brooks Foundation. Past volunteer work includes serving on the Board for the New England Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (NEAHP), Past Board Chairman of the Susan B. Komen for Cure Massachusetts Affiliate, and a Board member of The Friday Forum.

Mr. O’Connor has a bachelor’s degree in management from Bentley University and an MBA from Salve Regina University. He is a Fellow of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (FAHP) which is a designation bestowed on those who have made significant contributions to the healthcare philanthropy profession. Additionally, he has attained certified fundraising executive status (CFRE), which is awarded to those fundraising professionals who aspire to the highest standards of professional competence and ethical practice in serving the philanthropic sector. Mr. O’Connor resides in the Boston area with his wife, Juliet, and their three sons and daughter.
